Thrush is not a serious disease but it can cause great discomfort for its sufferer. The best thing you can do then you think you have thrush is to see a doctor immediately. There are also many over the counter medicines that are effective in treating thrush.

But aside from seeing a doctor and using over the counter medications, there are many things you can do at home to treat thrush.

1. The first thing you should do at the onset o thrush is to clean the affected area by washing it with plain water. It is not advisable to use soaps, shower gels and bath gels because these products can worsen the infection. Make sure that the affected area is always clean, cool and dry.

2. When you have thrush, avoid using lubricants and spermicidal creams. These products can make your conditions worse. You should also avoid latex condoms because latex or rubber can cause irritation.

3. Do not let synthetic fibers or materials touch the affected area as doing so could cause further irritation. You must wear clothes or undergarments made from natural fibers so as to minimize irritation.

4. Stress can trigger thrush this is why you should learn to relax and fight stress. Do not put yourself in stressful situations as much as possible and try to learn different stress-reducing techniques.

11. You can also put natural yogurt to the areas affected by thrush to minimize irritation. Yoghurts have ingredients that can combat inflammation.

12. Food is one of the main triggers of thrush. Avoid dried fruits, dairy products, products with yeasts, mushrooms, pickled vegetables and fruits, monosodium glutamate and smoked fish and meat as these can trigger thrush. You can also try to follow a restricted diet for at least one month. The restricted diet can help you determine the particular foods that triggers thrush. You can then avoid these foods to avoid acquiring thrush.

13. Probiotic supplements that support friendly fungi in the gut such as acidophilus are also found to be effective in treating thrush.

14. If your thrush is persistent and does not respond to home remedies then you should begin to see a doctor. You should never ignore a persistent thrush infection. Or else it could lead to a much worse condition.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

What Is Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Traditional Chinese medicine is gaining popularity in the U.S., as more and more people are learning the benefits of acupuncture, acupressure, deep massage, Qigong, and the herbal medicines. Westerners are the new kids on the block when it comes to receiving these treatments, as over a quarter of the population of the world practices TCM, also known as Oriental medicine.

The National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization believe TCM to be a viable alternative to Western medicine, and now many health insurance companies will cover acupuncture as a treatment for various ailments. Very exciting for those of us who find acupuncture to be a great help in lessening pain and improving circulation.

Acupuncture originated in China around 3,000 years ago and is the most common form of medical procedure in the rest of the world, because the same treatment not only relieves immediate pain, it is a preventative procedure because it realigns the Qi ( pronounced “Chee.”)

The Qi is the body’s vital energy, all things rise from Qi and it flows and connects a person to the earth and sky. It is also the source of the body’s natural healing, all disorders can be traced to a Qi imbalance, and the acupuncture points on the body release the bound Qi and allow it to flow naturally-the body can then begin to heal itself.

Diagnosis in acupuncture involves the practitioner asking a long list of questions, some usually considered by Americans to be of a private nature. The questions consist of everything from listing sleeping patterns to a typical day meals to how many times the patient has a bowel movement in a 24 hour period. These are necessary questions, as the more information the acupuncturist has, the better to tell where the Qi is blocked.

The patient typically will then lie down on a massage table (in the East acupuncture is usually done in the sitting position) and the practitioner will insert very thin needles into some of the 2,000 plus points in the body which connect to 14 pathways, or medians. The insertion of the needles does not hurt, and contrary to what you may have heard, he/she does not twist or bore them into the skin. They are inserted just underneath the surface and the patent is left in a soothing, dimmed room for about an hour. There are different sizes and lengths of needles, each for a specific ailments and point. The needles are made of super thin stainless steel and are pliable; they are discarded after each use.

Another form of TCM is herbal remedies; these are often used in conjunction with acupuncture. Because all things are interconnected, pains and conditions in the body have a lot to do with one’s emotions and thinking process. That is why people who experience chronic pain are also frequently depressed. TCM practitioners will often give the patient herbs to help relax or calm them along with the acupuncture sessions. This is called tonic herbalism, and some popular herbs used are probably already in your kitchen. Green tea and ginseng are two of the most well known herbs used in TCM, but here are some others-considered ”warm” foods which will help maintain good health and restore balance to a depleted Qi: Rice and noodles, broccoli, egg whites, fish and chicken. It is no coincidence that these are some of the main ingredients in all Eastern cooking.

In order to get a holistic view of TCM, we have covered acupuncture (prevention and treatment), herbal remedies and diet, it is only right that we should touch on exercise. Enter Qigong (Pronounced Chee Kung.) Qi, of course, still means energy, and gong means work or practice. The art and practice of Qigong involves practicing posture, breathing, meditation, and slow regulated movement of the limbs. Qigong is a great exercise, and because of its popularity, you can usually find classes in your area simply by opening the phone book.

The Earth Medicine Named As Natural Remedy

The Earth Medicine

Taking prescription medication has become the norm for many people in today’s world. As soon as they feel something is amiss within their bodies they run to the doctor and begin popping pills that contain countless chemicals.

Many are realizing the benefits that a bit of research and a trip to the health food store can afford them. Natural remedies offer an alternative to the medical approach that most of us have been dependent on our entire lives.

Natural remedies are available for almost any condition. Everything from migraine headaches, cold sores, athlete’s foot, heartburn, and even head lice can be cured by taking something derived right from the earth. We wouldn’t think that by eating a piece of ginger our nausea would fade, but ginger does effectively settle an upset stomach. Instead, most people would chew a chalky tablet instead of eating something that is not only addressing the medical issue, they are suffering from, but also it’s doing it without any ill side effects. Ginger is a natural substance that we use in cooking therefore using it to cure our discomfort only seems natural.

Natural remedies are not just treating pains and aches. They are also taking care of problems that many people suffer from but never seek a cure for. Things like memory problems, and a sluggish immune system. When a person feels their memory slipping the idea of telling their doctor or anywhere for that matter, might feel daunting. They don’t view it as a medical issue just a sign of aging. It can be treated and it can be treated with a natural cure. The same can be said for the immune system. With the ingestion of antibiotics on and off for year to treat common ailments, some people build up a tolerance to them, and their immune system takes a beating. By using a natural supplement to help boost it back to where it needs to be, they are giving their body a natural chance to fight off infection.

Natural remedies are a safe and effective way to build a healthier human being. Without the added stress of clogging our bodies with chemicals in the form of prescription medication, we can live longer and healthier lives. It might be something as simple as a cup of herbal tea each day or taking a vitamin before bed, but it’s a step in a positive direction, that direction being a chemical-free, strong and healthy body.

Diagnosis Hemorrhoids

Diagnosis Hemorrhoids
Diagnosis Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids have been diagnosed for decades, but the disease is misunderstood greatly. This is because most people don’t fully understand the area and the diseases that are associated with it. Over ten million people in the United States have been diagnosed with hemorrhoids. Almost a third of them seek medical treatment. The rate of serious hemorrhoids has gone done since its peak in the mid-70′s. Many people who get hemorrhoids are around 45-65 years in age.

Many things are associated with hemorrhoids like ulcers and Crohn disease. Many women who get hemorrhoids get it because of their pregnancy, although it is undetermined why pregnant women get hemorrhoids. Believe it or not, hemorrhoids are present in healthy individuals; they are present in everyone. The only thing is that when they swell or enlarge they can become quite discomforting and painful. It is when the vascular cushions become enlarged, inflamed, or protruding when they are called hemorrhoids.

Some of the causes for hemorrhoids include your diet. For people who have a high fiber diet, they may get hemorrhoids because of the frequency of passings. Pregnancy is another cause, but it could be the extra pressure from the added body weight. Prolonged sitting on a toilet can also be the cause for hemorrhoids. Aging also causes hemorrhoids because the tissue inside the rectum begins to deteriorate. The weakening of the tissue can start as early as thirty. Straining and constipation has also been known to be a cause for hemorrhoids.

Symptoms are divided into external and internal. Internal does not cause pain, but external can cause discomfort, pain, and bleeding. Protruding hemorrhoids can be itchy and bleed. They require medical attention because they are so uncomfortable. Internal hemorrhoids will cause discomfort and will make a person feel pressure around the abdomen and anus.

The pain you may feel from internal hemorrhoids is caused by a spasm in the sphincter. Internal hemorrhoids are mostly painless and have bleeding with bowel movements. When the hemorrhoid puts pressure on the hemorrhoid veins, they tend to break and blood will appear. Internal hemorrhoids can also produce mucus that will keep the area moist and cause the anus to itch, although this is not common.

Most hemorrhoids will only be treated if they cause any discomfort or pain. They will heal, but it may cause some scarring, depending on how serious your condition is. For external hemorrhoids, you may have an extra deposit of skin that will be permanent. If you feel any discomfort or pain, you should seek medical attention and consult your physician. Everyone has hemorrhoids; it’s just a matter of how serious. You may need to consult your doctor if your hemorrhoids seem to be enlarged or blood is located in your stool.

Tips To Put Your Insomnia To A Rest

Tips To Put Your Insomnia To A Rest
Tips To Put Your Insomnia To A Rest

Do you feel tired and un-refreshed on waking in the morning?

Do you stay that way throughout the day?

Do you have difficulty concentrating during the day?

The World Health Organization says that one-third of the world’s population experience insomnia at some stage in their lives, with approximately five per cent needing medical treatment!

To avoid medical intervention, try these natural techniques and remedies, and help put your insomnia to rest.

1. Relaxation

Relax before going to bed. Do some deep breathing, listen to soft music. According to Dr. Timothy Sharp from Sydney University, avoiding caffeine, alcohol and nicotine will also help.

2. Bedtime routine

Develop a bedtime routine so your body knows it’s time to go to sleep. By winding down your physical activities and following a set routine prior to bed, your body will start to associate some of these actions with going to sleep. Start with a cup of hot milk. Milk contains a protein called tryptophan, which helps to promote sleep. This can be substituted with chamomile tea, which is known to calm the nerves. Follow this with a hot bath or shower, the heat will help to lower your internal body temperature, again telling your body to go to sleep.

3. Your bedroom is for sleeping only

Make your bedroom your sleep-room. Turn the lights off as soon as you get into bed. Don’t read, eat or watch television in your bedroom, or do any activity that is not sleep related. Make sure the room is dark and cozy; include extra pillows on the bed and even some teddy bears. Make your bedroom into a sleep sanctuary, a room that you will instantly feel secure and comfortable in, and best of all, a room that you will crave to sleep in.

4. Calm down and clear your mind

Clear your mind of the day’s activities or things that are due to be done tomorrow. Write a ‘to do’ list for the following day. Organize uniforms, lunches, etc … the night before. Make arrangements earlier than usual so you don’t worry.

5. Give time back to yourself

Instead of trying to cram as much as you can into the day then find you haven’t left much time to sleep, try to find short cuts or solutions to give a little time back to yourself. Make a double casserole and freeze half for another night. Spot clean the house as you go. Have more barbecues, using paper plates (less washing-up). Offer to pay the kids, or the neighbour’s kids, to do some extra chores.

6. A balanced diet helps to make a balanced mind

If you’re lacking in essential vitamins and minerals your body cannot operate at its best. Throw out the junk food and fizzy drinks, and make a new start to good physical and mental health. Add in some regular exercise and watch your body respond with some improved sleep.

7. Don’t lie in bed if you can’t sleep

If you don’t feel sleepy enough to drift off, your mind will probably anguish over the fact that you can’t get to sleep. This will only make it harder to get to sleep each time you experience this. Get out of bed and go into a different room. Do something to distract yourself until you do start to feel sleepy and then try to sleep again later.

8. Medications may interfere with your sleep

It has been shown that some of the medications below may cause sleep problems. Check with your doctor if you are experiencing insomnia and are also taking any of these medications – amphetamines (diet pills), antidepressants, beta blockers (heart and blood pressure), cimetidine (ulcers), clonidine (blood pressure), cortisone, diuretics (fluid), levodopa (parkinsons), methyldopa (blood pressure) and ventolin (asthma).

9. Above all: de-stress

Sharp says that stress is the worst cause of insomnia. Use some of the techniques above and try to remove as much stress out of your life as possible, and finally put your insomnia to rest.

Lasik Eye Surgery See The World More Clearly

Lasik Eye Surgery See The World More Clearly
Lasik Eye Surgery See The World More Clearly

LASIK eye surgery is a medical procedure using a laser on the eye of a patient who has eyesight problems. LASIK is an acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileuses. LASIK can be used to improve the eyesight of patients who are far-sighted, near-sighted or have an astigmatism. After LASIK surgery has been performed, patients with these types of eyesight problems should not have to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses.

LASIK is one of the most common surgical procedures performed by an eye surgeon nowadays. It has become very popular because of it’s pain-free operation and because of its more or less instantaneous results. This is the major advantage that LASIK has over other surgical procedures to correct imperfect vision. After a couple of days rest you will soon see a definite improvement in your eyesight.

The surgical procedure itself is quick and virtually painless, and is performed under local anaesthetic. It consists of the eye surgeon cutting a hinged flap in the cornea which is then folded back to expose the lens of the eye. A laser from an instrument called a ‘microkeratome’ is used to vaporize aberrations and reshape the cornea so that the image focuses on the correct part of the retina, therefore improving the vision. The hinged flap in the cornea is then folded back into place for healing.

You will see two main types of LASIK surgery being advertised. Traditional LASIK surgery and Wavefront LASIK. Conventional LASIK surgery corrects the focusing power of the eye by remodelling the shape of the lens with the aid of laser. Wavefront LASIK is a variation of the traditional procedure and produces a spatially varying correction based on readings from a wavefront sensor. A wavefront sensor measures the eye itself by detecting any aberrations on the cornea. It achieves this by sending a weak laser source into the eye, and by measuring and processing the reflection off the retina. The Wavefront laser procedure is carried out using computer aided equipment and doctors have reported improved eyesight results from Wavefront over traditional LASIK surgery.

Although beneficial to thousands of patients, as is usually the case there can also be some disadvantages to LASIK eye surgery. Firstly, it can be an expensive treatment and prices can vary from area to area and from doctor to doctor. Secondly, as in all surgical procedures, there can be post-surgery complications. Common complications include patients developing glare and halos and possibly double vision which can affect night time vision capability. Others develop severe dry eye syndrome which may need to be treated with drops or cream for the rest of your life. However, complications in LASIK surgery are rare and the vast majority of patients benefit from almost perfect vision without eyeglasses or contacts after surgery.

If you decide to proceed with LASIK surgery you should carefully research the subject to find out as much as possible about the procedure. You should also research the eye surgeons that perform the surgery and if possible act on personal referral. Keep in mind that when pricing the surgery that not all advertisements for LASIK quote the full and final price and many have add-on costs. Finally, before proceeding with the surgery, make sure to have a thorough conversation with your eye surgeon so that you are fully aware of all the benefits and risks.

Black Cherry Health Benefits

Black Cherry Health Benefits
Amidst the growing popularity of cherries, black cherry health benefits are becoming very well known by consumers. Since red and black cherries are closely related on the berry family tree, many assume that the black varieties only have just as much nutritional value as their sweeter red cousins? However, a closer examination of black cherries reveals that their health benefits are even more potent as those from red cherries making them well worth an enterprising purchase at the local market.

To make it more transparent and easier to remember, it would help to enumerate some of the more important cherries health benefits one by one.

Anthocyanins and melatonin are two of the most prominent antioxidants found in black cherries although there are actually many useful others. We're already familiar with the benefits of anthocyanins because these are the primary antioxidants in red cherries. Anthocyanins play a variety of role in relieving inflammation and other inflammatory conditions and hence display a knack for pain management and healing. With regular consumption of either black or red cherries, consumers may actually notice significant improvement in conditions like vascular headaches, gout and other forms of arthritis, as well as lowered risks for heart disease, hypertension and stroke.
Melatonin, the other half of the antioxidant tandem that are responsible for a significant number of black cherry health benefits, helps with improving memory as well as negating sleep-related conditions. The human brain actually secretes melatonin daily to regulate body activity and encourage sleep. Additional melatonin from cherries can enhance this process thereby promoting relaxation. It is also believed that melatonin plays an essential role in learning, so individuals who regularly eat cherries may have a sharper attention for learning.

The slew of other antioxidants that make black cherry health benefits possible play significant roles in negating the effects of free radicals. These are chemicals which are highly aggressive and cause damage at the cellular level. Antioxidants in the body actually react with free radicals first before they can do any damage. A lower level of free radicals in the body can help improve one's resistance against diseases such as cancer and heart disease which are primarily caused by damage and mutation of the cells.

The next time they run out of fresh red cherries at the supermarket shelf, think about the above black cherry health benefits. When you consider that you are getting even greater health value with the darker variety, you may find it truly worth your while to make the transition. Eat them fresh or cook with them, it doesn't matter. They even come in dried form, cherry concentrate and cherry vitamins. At the end of the day, cherries health benefits are there for the taking. The question is: are you ready to take advantage?

Home Remedies – Facts or Quacks?

That’s what I recently asked myself. Myths and legends often have their basis in a grain of truth. Are home remedies based on truth too? A little research provided this unusual perspective on one of our most frequently-used medicines.

Are We Barking Up The Wrong Tree?

Not if it’s a willow tree! Chewing on willow bark to reduce fever and inflammation dates back to the time of Hippocrates (400 BC). Willow bark was used as a medicine in China and Europe for centuries because of its ability to relieve pain and lower fever. Early American settlers even found Native Americans gathering bark from willow trees to treat the same conditions.

What’s So Special About Willow Bark?

Willow trees, including the white, black, purple and violet species, contain a chemical called salicin. Chewing or pulping this bark releases the salicin. Once the bark is ingested, the body converts the salicin from the willow bark into salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is still used today to treat fevers, decrease inflammation, and even help heart disease.

There’s no need to gnaw on a tree like a beaver every time you have a headache. Nor is it necessary for drug companies to plant, grow, and harvest groves of willow trees and remove the bark. Today salicylic acid is produced synthetically in chemical factories as little white pills of acetylsalicylic acid. Perhaps you know it by its more common name…

Introducing The Miracle Drug – Aspirin!

That’s right – centuries of chewing on willow bark led to the creation of one of our most widely-used medicines: aspirin. Once the amazing curative abilities of the active ingredient in willow bark were recognized, ways were found to mass-produce it as a cheap yet effective product.

Originally hailed as a wonder drug, aspirin was found to have multiple medical uses. It serves as a pain reliever, fever reducer, reduces inflammation, and even acts to thin the blood to help prevent heart attacks. That’s a lot of power in seemingly ordinary willow tree bark.

Amazingly, this was not a discovery by a single person. As we had discussed above, many groups of people around the world were using this home remedy (or even cave remedy!) for thousands of years. This is definitely one home remedy I would classify as a fact, not a quack.

It makes me wonder though: how many trees did they have to chew on before they found the right one?

You can find free home remedies using the resources below. They might not be miracle drugs, but they can help you avoid the cost and embarrassment of common illnesses.

Sexual Healing, Still The Best Medicine

Sexual Healing - Still The Best Medicine
Sexual Healing - Still The Best Medicine

© Jay Onwukwe (author)

During sexual intercourse, there are noticeable and scientifically measurable changes in the rate of breathing, heartbeat, blood circulation, perspiration and glandular secretions of both partners. Less noticeable but equally present are changes in emotional energy and brain wave energy vibrations. All these have varying modifying effects on the whole body.

The efficacy of therapeutic love-making rests on the knowledge that some rhythmic movements, some sexual intercourse positions, certain postures, and sexual activities produce and re-direct energy flow patterns within the body of copulating partners.

By adopting certain sexual positions, and controlling the rhythm and tempo of love-making, the therapeutic benefits of sexual intercourse can be activated. The fundamental principle behind sexual healing is the circulation rather than dissipation of sexual energy.

There are several of these healing postures and rhythms; and their efficacy depends on the man's ability to control ejaculation, and the woman's readiness to circulate healing energy.

The woman's sexual role is very important for effective generation of the restorative and healing powers of sex. She must wholly and happily surrender herself to give sexual pleasure without reservations; and to receive sexual pleasure without reservations. That way, she opens up her awesome powers of rejuvenation that has a limitless potential to heal both herself and her partner.

The hidden potency in sex as a source of mutual healing and rejuvenation can only be experienced through wise and correct indulgence in sexual intercourse. Correct sexual experience improves vitality, increases mental power, stabilizes the emotions, balances the elements, and illumines the spirit.

A passionate, harmonious and balanced sex life promotes good health, creativity and productivity through a natural and smooth alignment of Mind and Body. When there is no inhibition and no suppression of erotic feelings and fantasies, high levels of sexual freedom and ecstasy is attained by the couples; and this generates and circulates strong healing energy within their bodies.

Sexual desire in man and woman is natural. It is perfectly normal to have erotic sexual feelings and fantasies, and you should express it, not only responsibly but also respectfully, in ways that heal and restore the body, stimulate the mind, and uplift the spirit of Man.

There is superlative healing power in sex. When practiced correctly, sex can heal and rejuvenate the whole body - physically, emotionally and spiritually. On the other hand, incorrect sexual practices can deplete mental, spiritual, emotional and physical energy. Sex can bind, and sex can liberate the spirit of man.

This excerpt is from the new book: Sexual Energy Transmutation - the secret path to Health, Wealth and Genius.

Glyconutrients A New Paradigm

Glyconutrients A New Paradigm

For many years carbohydrates and sugars were considered a bad and unnecessary addition to the diet. With the advent of Glycobiology (the study of carbohydrates) Science has proved that this is not so. In fact on the contrary, Glyconutrients have been proved to be very beneficial to our health. Now after years of neglect science is discovering some far-reaching truths about these carbohydrates.

Glyconutrients play an essential role in the structure of the cells in our bodies. All our cells are covered with fibers called glycoforms made up of proteins and fats. With the invention of the electron microscope, Scientists discovered trillions of sugar molecules adhering to these fibers or hair like structures. These sugar molecules are Glyconutrients and are in effect carbohydrate nutrients.

Contrary to previous speculation Glyconutrients are emerging as vital nutrients to the body. Their functions are varied and include hormone balance, enhancing our immune system, blood clotting. They help to create a communication system for the cells.

There are 8 necessary saccharides needed by our bodies they are called Glyconutrients

Irc New Non Surgical Way Of Hemorroids Treatment

Hemorroids represent one of the most common colorectal complaints heard by family physicians. Each year approximately 10.5 million Americans experience hemorrhoidal symptoms. They are the bane of pregnant women, overweight people, and a large percentage of the American population over the age of 30. In fact, hemorroids will strike at least 50 percent of the population, according to national statistics. That’s a lot of people suffering from this nasty condition.

Although, there are ways that people can prevent the onset of hemorroids, or help reduce the pain caused by them, some patients may end up needing surgery. For years, physicians and patients have been awaiting a surgical treatment for hemorroids that causes less pain and a shorter recovery period than traditional procedures. Now we have one. It is called Infrared Coagulation Technology (IRC). Traditional surgery is done below this line, causing the patient a lot of pain for a long time after surgery.

Treatment with IRC – a method obtaining it’s popularity in treating hemorroids. This procedure is performed usually after undergoing a colonoscopy while the patient is sedated. This procedure involves applying infrared light through the anus to compress and seal haemorrhoid veins.

This method is painless, safe, and effective. Before any treatment, a physician will conduct a routine external and internal examination to chart your hemorrhoid disease to determine whether or not you are a candidate for IRC.

Many medical studies find IRC to be the non-surgical hemorrhoid treatment of choice because it is fast, well tolerated by patients, and virtually problem free.

The success of IRC technique depends upon many factors such as the size and duration of the hemorrhoid. The European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, states that 92 percent of patients reported they were symptom-free following IRC therapy. That “cure” rate is somewhat diminished when a large hemorrhoid has been neglected for many years. It is best to treat them when they are small are more readily curable.

Millions of patients have been treated with IRC. Experience tells us that hemorroids treated with IRC generally do not recur. A sensible diet, moderate exercise and proper bowel habits will also help.

However, before committing to the surgery you should look into what lasik is and what it can do for vision in general and your sight in particular.

Before committing yourself ask to speak to people who have had the operation with the organisation you are thinking of using yourself. Ask about the good and bad points of both the operation and the company itself.

As lasik is a fairly new medical procedure the long term risks are not known and it is not possible currently to cure the need for reading glasses as this is problem is more connected with the weakening of the eye muscles over time rather then the corner. As a potential candidate for lasik you must discuss all your concerns and expectations with your surgeon before the procedure is carried out to ensure you completely understand the process and outcome possibilities for you as an individual.

Finally, many people can’t even think about anyone touching their eyes, never mind someone pointing a laser into them. If you are reading this article and are feeling a bit squeamish then perhaps lasik is not for you!

Flaxseed is claimed to benefit every molecule in the body! It improves the quality of hair, nails, and skin, as well as helping to regulate bodyweight, lower cholesterol and blood pressure and prevent arthritis and cancers.

What is Flax Plant?

The flax plant, an ancient crop, yields the fibre from which linen is woven, as well as seeds (linseed or flaxseed) and oil. The oil, also called linseed oil, has many industrial uses, it is an important ingredient in paints, varnishes and linoleum for example.

Flax is a grain crop which has several substances that can be healthy. It has fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and lignans. You can add flax to your diet by either using the flaxseeds or flaxseed oil. Both will add the essential omega-3 fatty acid, alpha linolenic acid (ALA) to our bodies. We need this fatty acid and are unable to make it on our own. This fatty acid may help reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease and sudden cardiac death. It is believed that flax’s fatty acids, as well as fiber, help in lowering blood cholesterol.

Flaxseed has been a part of human and animal diets for thousands of years in Asia, Europe, and Africa, and more recently in North America and Australia, says Kaye Effertz, executive director of AmeriFlax, a trade promotion group representing U.S. flaxseed producers. As flax gained popularity for its industrial uses, however, its popularity as a food product waned, but it never lost its nutritional value.

What does Flax Seeds look like?

Flax seeds are slightly larger than sesame seeds and have a hard shell that is smooth and shiny. Their color ranges from deep amber to reddish brown depending upon whether the flax is of the golden or brown variety. While whole flaxseeds feature a soft crunch, the nutrients in ground seeds are more easily absorbed.

Today flax is experiencing a renaissance among nutritionists, the health conscious public, food processors, and chefs alike!

Misconceptions About Umbilical Hernia

Misconceptions About Umbilical Hernia
Misconceptions About Umbilical Hernia

Umbilical hernia is a very common abnormality of the belly button that occurs in most babies’ first years of life. Although parents become very concerned when they find out that their child has been diagnosed with umbilical hernia, there is virtually no reason to be worried about. Apart from being “in-esthetic”, umbilical hernia raises no major physiological issues. This type of hernia is a mild disorder that doesn’t interfere with the normal development of the child. Umbilical hernia is a post-natal abnormality of the belly button that occurs in more than 10 percent of all babies. This umbilical abnormality is commonly developed by girls and prematurely born infants and it is usually revealed in babies older than 6 months, rarely occurring prior to this age.

Umbilical hernia occurs when the umbilical ring fails to close properly, causing the belly button to swell. The swelling of the belly button induces babies a state of local discomfort and sometimes a small degree of soreness. In some cases, umbilical hernia can be accentuated by the babies’ movement and straining. The disorder doesn’t generate any other symptoms and it involves no risk of complication. Although umbilical hernia may sound and look serious, the disorder is in fact a very mild physiological affection.

Umbilical hernia can be easily revealed by a physical examination and the process of diagnosing the disorder doesn’t involve performing additional tests. Unlike other forms of hernia, which commonly require surgical intervention, umbilical hernia generally disappears on itself within the babies’ first years of life. Statistics indicate that more than 90 percent of umbilical hernias disappear by the age of 12 months without medical intervention. However, in some cases this type of hernia can persist for a few years, causing children further distress and discomfort. Rarely, umbilical hernia can even persist until kindergarten or primary school.

The treatment for umbilical hernia rarely involves surgery. Due to the mild character of the disorder, doctors prefer to correct umbilical hernia through other means rather than surgical intervention. In order to correct this type of hernia, doctors usually choose to strap up the umbilical region with sterile bandages after carefully pushing the prominent extremities of the belly button back into place. After the belly button has been correctly positioned, the straps will prevent it from sticking out, allowing the belly ring to heal properly. By using this technique, umbilical hernia heals very fast, leaving babies with no visible scars.

In rare cases, if umbilical hernia is very large or persistent, doctors may suggest correcting it through surgical intervention. The surgical intervention for umbilical hernia is very simple and doesn’t involve any risks. The incisions performed during the surgical intervention are small and they heal without leaving any permanent marks.

Symptoms Of Sleep Apnea

Symptoms Of Sleep Apnea
Symptoms Of Sleep Apnea

It is often hard to differentiate between snoring and a serious medical condition known as sleep apnea. However, there are definitive symptoms of sleep apnea if you know what to look for. Snoring, for instance, is a distracting occurrence caused by vibrations from fatty tissues rubbing against the back of the throat.

Sleep apnea is much more serious and may be recognize by the presence of heavy snoring, pauses between breaths, etc. A spouse may be the best source of information relating to these, but the apnea sufferer will instantly recognize the absence of breath through the night.

One of the symptoms of sleep apnea is the complete loss of air on multiple occasions throughout the night. It is a known fact that sufferers actually stop breathing on more than on occasion.

As a result, the sufferer may awake short of breath, choking or gasping for air, etc. They may not realize what has happened at first, but may start to recognize a pattern of shortness of breath and discomfort during the night.

Sleep apnea is often recognized in other ways, as well. One of the less obvious symptoms of sleep apnea is fatigue, which is also present in so many other ailments. Fatigue exists due to the disruption of sleep and/or inability to fall asleep. Additional symptoms of sleep apnea may include headaches, the inability to concentrate on everyday activities, exhaustion, irritability, etc.

The symptoms of sleep apnea are noticeable if you are familiar with them. However, even if symptoms of sleep apnea are present, only a physician can properly diagnose the disorder. A series of questions and a sleep study may be ordered during the evaluation period.

It is very important to receive an early diagnosis because, if left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to other serious medical conditions. Among them, heart disease, an increased risk of a stroke and more.

This article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be used as, or in place of, professional medical advice. Before beginning any treatment for snoring, please consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and remedy

Antioxidants Are Found In Broccoli Sprouts

Antioxidants Are Found In Broccoli Sprouts
Antioxidants Are Found In Broccoli Sprouts

A high dose of antioxidants has extremely beneficial effects on the body. Its almost impossible to get too much. First of all, the antioxidants in broccoli sprouts are great for stopping both aging and cell decay, thus resulting in a healthier body. They can even help reduce your risk of cancer.

There are few things as packed with antioxidants as broccoli sprouts, and so many people have jumped on to the current health craze by eating them. It’s not just broccoli sprouts; from Green tea to Vitamin C, antioxidants are the biggest thing in health nowadays. And its no wonder.

Sprouts are a risky proposition for many people. If they are commercially grown, they can carry food-borne diseases which are especially likely to effect the old and very young, as well as people with compromised immune systems. Fortunately, if you grow your broccoli sprouts at home, you can ensure that they are not over-saturated and that you use safe fertilizers which will not infect you with e. coli.

One of the healthiest way to consume these little dynamos is buy growing broccoli sprouts at home on your own. Although you can get the same helpful antioxidants in full grown broccoli, broccoli sprouts have the advantage that they contain 50 times the quantity of mature plants. Another advantage of growing broccoli sprouts as opposed to buying them is safety.

And you don’t have to eat them plain, as if they were medicine, either. broccoli sprouts are great on salads, over rice, marinated and served with chicken, and in many other culinary combinations. They can be used anywhere that bean sprouts might be called for. Of course, some people simply don’t like the taste of broccoli sprouts.

For them, there is broccoli sprout extract. Even if you do think that they taste good, this extract might be the logical choice for you. If you don’t have that much room to grow plants, broccoli sprout extract has the advantage of being able to pack a tremendous dose into small, affordable pills.

Of course, before you go out and buy a whole pallet of broccoli sprouts, keep in mind that this is only one way in which you can get antioxidants to help your body and decrease your chance of cancer. Not only do tea, and multivitamins contain them, but so do most green leafy vegetables, although not at quite the dose at which they are contained in broccoli sprouts.

Can Rat Poison Cure Heart Attacks

Can Rat Poison Cure Heart Attacks
Can Rat Poison Cure Heart Attacks

Warfarin was used in the 1950s as an anticoagulant for victims of heart attacks and strokes, but gained fame when it was used to treat President Dwight D. Eisenhower after his 1956 coronary. Ironically, Warfarin is also used as Rat Poison!

Therapeutic doses of warfarin are minuscule: 2mg to 10mg for a 100kg person. The actual dosage depends upon an individual’s diet and metabolism, as well as body weight. In fact, body weight is not a major factor. A 150kg person may require 2mg while a 75kg person may require 10mg for the same therapeutic effect.

There are very few good alternatives to sodium warfarin treatment. In some cases, a doctor may prescribe low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). I do not know the issues about long-term effectiveness of LMWH, but the fact that it requires two injections per day, subcutaneous, at fairly precise 12-hour intervals, precludes its use for most people. I’ve done it in the short-term (post-surgical recovery while the warfarin is ramping up). I wouldn’t want to have to do it every day.

The complementary problem for people on warfarin therapy is that it is necessary to keep a balanced intake of Vitamin K. Many foods are high in Vitamin K, including shrimp and spinach, and an unbalanced intake of Vitamin K will cause the prothrombin times to vary wildly. This is not to say that foods containing Vitamin K must be avoided; merely that the intake should be reasonably constant, so the warfarin dosage can be adjusted to compensate for it.

Coagulant drugs or Vitamin K1 have been suggested as possible antidotes for pets accidentially exposed to anticoagulant poisons. In addition, since some of these poisons act by inhibiting liver enzymes, a blood transfusion (with the products of the correct enzymes present) can save a person who inadvertently takes them, an advantage over some older poisons.

For example, an occasional spinach salad is not considered dangerous, but a spinach salad every night for two weeks would not be a good idea, particularly if there was a prothrombin-clotting-time test taken just at the end of those two weeks. Besides the risk that the sustained Vitamin K intake would cause (due to lowered clotting time), an adjustment made to the dosage followed by a discontinuance of the intake would result in a significantly raised clotting time. So the key is to maintain a reasonably constant Vitamin K intake.

What Is Tumescent Liposuction

What Is Tumescent Liposuction
What Is Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction involves the surgical removal of excess body fat using a combination of traditional liposuction techniques and tumescent anesthesia. The procedure is relatively new to the cosmetic surgery scene, having come into widespread use in the 1990′s. Tumescent liposuction offers significant benefits over traditional liposuction techniques for its ability to minimize post-operative discomfort, curtail surgical bleeding, and reduce bruising and swelling during the recovery period.

Tumescent liposuction is unique in that it uses large volumes of a dilute solution of lidocaine, paired with the drug epinephrine. The lidocaine serves as a local anesthetic, eliminating the need for patients to go under general anesthesia. The epinephrine serves to temporarily restrict capillaries, thereby reducing bleeding during the surgery. This combination allows surgeons to perform liposuction using minimal amounts of sedatives. The lidocaine is retained in the body for several hours after the procedure, giving the patient up to 12 to18+ hours of pain-free recovery. The use of tumescent anesthetic also eliminates the drunken feeling felt by many patients after going under general anesthesia, as well as the nausea felt by traditional liposuction patients.

At the start of the procedure, the surgeon anesthetizes the skin at select locations using tiny needles. Once the skin has been numbed, longer needles are used to anesthetize the subcutaneous fat with large quantities of the dilute lidocaine and epinephrine solution. Patients are frequently given a mild sedative, such as Valium to help relax them during the procedure. Once the areas to be treated are completely numb, the doctor begins the liposuction. Small holes, called adits, are made in the skin using round skin biopsy punches to form access sites for the liposuction microcannulas. A microcannula is a very small stainless steel tube, ranging from 1mm to 3mm in diameter, designed to effectively remove small amounts of fat. Fat is suctioned out of the body in small tunnels through the microcannula, leaving the fibrous strands attached to the skin and muscles intact. Once the desired fat has been suctioned out, the microcannulas are removed. Since the adits are such small holes, there is no need for sutures using this method. This actually serves to speed up the healing process since drainage can occur via the adits, greatly reducing the amount of swelling and bruising of the treated areas.

Tumescent liposuction, as with any other type of surgical procedure, does carry some risks. Patients should expect some side-effects from the procedure such as bruising, swelling, and temporary numbness of the treated areas. Significant drainage will occur in areas where adits were formed. Some skin irregularities may result from the procedure, though this side-effect is greatly reduced with the use of both the tumescent anesthesia and microcannulas. Other, more serious side-effects can include blood clots, infection, and allergic reactions to the anesthesia.

Astragalus Root Can It Help You Feel Better

Astragalus Root Can It Help You Feel Better
Astragalus Root Can It Help You Feel Better

Astragalus root has been used since ancient times in Chinese medicine. It is related to the pea family and is actually a root. Only in recent times has it been introduced to the west and we are now finding the benefits of this herbal plant. It is grown in Northern and Northeast China. It is harvested in the Spring and then dried for 4-7 years. It is now grown in the USA.

Scientific research has shown that this root has the ability to strengthen and improve the body’s immune system. It does this by stimulating the body to make more interferon. This substance helps the body destroy viruses and other unwanted microbes. Astragalus root is often recommended for boosting the immune system, in those who get sick easily or already have a serious illness.

Astragalus root also claims to boost energy levels and vitality. Blood circulation is improved. There are no known side effects, but consultation with your doctor is advised before taking as a supplement.

Astragalus root is very active in improving cell communication. Its properties include Polysaccharides and Glyconutrients, which are known to improve the immune system and are also anti-inflammatory. It also helps the body get rid of water retention.

It is taken as a dried powder and often with other Chinese medicines. To prepare as a tea: You will need to put 1 teaspoonful of the root powder in 1 cup of water, then simmer for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 times a day. When taking a tincture of the root powder you will need to take 2-4 ml three times a day.

You should not use Astragalus root prior to or after surgery, because the risk of bleeding can be increased. Astragalus root can have an adverse effect when used with blood thinning drugs like warfarin.

Astragalus root is a good supplement for your health but is a strong medicine. This should not be taken randomly and you should always consult your doctor before taking. Research in the west is fairly new and we have only just begun to find out about this amazing herbal medicine. As scientists do more research we will hear and get to know more about this new and exciting alternative to modern day medcines.

A Look At Allergy Products

A Look At Allergy Products
A Look At Allergy Products

Do allergy products really make a difference? Plenty of specialty products exist, and if you are looking, you can you find products for every room in the home and practically every part of your body. HEPA air filters and filters for your vacuum cleaner; 100% pure cotton bedding and pillows; masks that you can wear at work, at play and at home; cleaning supplies; cases to stuff your mattresses in; throat moisturizers; cosmetics; dehumidifiers; toys that can be washed; the list goes on and on.

Take a peek on the Internet and you’ll find pages of websites offering allergy products of all sorts and all price ranges. Allergy products are big business and to allergy sufferers, these products look to be the answer to all of their suffering.

If you suffer from allergies, you too might be tempted to jump on the allergy products bandwagon. Before you do, it’s important to realize that the answer to whether any of these products work or not is a bit more complicated than it seems on the surface.

Several allergy-related issues need to be addressed before you whip out your credit card. Otherwise the allergy products you select might not be the great deal you had expected. First of all, be certain you know what it is you are allergic to. Are you allergic to pet dander, dust mites, food, grass, or what? If you know, that’s great. If you don’t, you might want to first go through a round of allergy tests to determine your nemesis.

Once you know what it is you are allergic to you then need to spend some time reading the descriptions of the allergy products before you purchase any. Why? Because the allergy products you may be interested in might not be designed to alleviate the allergens that cause your problems. For example, the purpose of an air filter is to remove airborne allergens, the ones that spend the majority of their time suspended in air, like pet dander.

Dust mite droppings are only in the air a short time, when they’re first released or when a vacuum cleaner stirs them up from their resting place on the ground. An expensive air filter won’t benefit you if you are sensitive to dust mites. However, a casing to enclose your mattress or your pillows will, as these are designed to keep the allergens from coming into contact with you.

Getting back to air filters, most are not effective for dealing with plant-based allergens, even though these are considered airborne allergens. In the case of ragweed, grass clippings and other such irritants, it is better to keep these from entering the home in the first place by closing doors and windows and running an air conditioner.

Are you beginning to understand what is involved with selecting the right allergy products? When in doubt, the best advice is to discuss the subject of allergy products with your allergist. You’re more likely to get an accurate, unbiased answer to your questions about allergy products.

Lasik Replaces Eye Glasses

Lasik Replaces Eye Glasses
Lasik Replaces Eye Glasses

LASIK is a surgical procedure that can reduce a person’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The procedure permanently changes the shape of the cornea (the delicate clear covering on the front of the eye). For clear vision, the eye’s cornea and lens must bend (refract) light rays properly, so that images are focused on the retina. If the light rays aren’t clearly focused on the retina, the images you see are blurry.

LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is a procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser.

What is the real difference between conventional Laser Eye Surgery and Custom LASIK Eye Surgery?

Conventional Laser Eye Surgery

Conventional Laser Eye Surgery treats the vast majority of common optical aberrations called “lower order” aberrations. These are responsible for causing nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Custom LASIK Eye Surgery provides a more precise treatment for patients who have “higher order” aberrations, which we can now measure with the Aberrometer. For these patients, customized laser eye surgery may provide a better quality of vision by measuring and addressing all of these aberrations as part of the treatment plan.

During LASIK surgery, a small incision is made in the cornea to create a flap. Then, a laser beam works within the cornea to reshape it for vision correction. After the reshaping, the flap is put back into place and serves as a sort of natural bandage.

Will I Need Reading Glasses After the Treatment?

Generally, patients under 40 years of age read well without glasses following the treatment. Patients over 40 may need magnification for reading fine print.

Presbyopia is the term that refers to the natural weakening of the focusing muscles that occurs in our early to mid 40s, causing us to need the magnification that reading glasses provide. The LASIK treatment does not correct or prevent presbyopia. We also will be glad to discuss another option called monovision.

Rising Medical Cost Solution Is Online Pharmacy

Rising Medical Cost Solution Is Online Pharmacy
Rising Medical Cost Solution Is Online Pharmacy

Let us discuss about the present medical system in USA. Being ill, one must see a doctor for consultation after paying some fees. Then he will rush to the Medicine shops for medicine, which is the remedial treatment of his disease. If the disease is complicated that warrants stay at hospital and /or operation, he will be admitted to a hospital and can go home after recovery only after paying the bills of the hospital. In every case the bill is fat and some times go beyond the reach of one’s capacity. People like me have studied and raised voice against such system.

Cost of medical treatment is enormous in America, thanks to the systems developed here. There is an unholy nexus between the Insurance companies, doctors and medical Service providers, which has sky rocketed the medical treatment cost. The situation is so much grave that we have once read that 25% of Americans have no health insurance coverage.

Because maintaining the insurance is also a high cost affair and may be beyond the reach of common Americans so much trapped with Credit Card Bills, rising unemployment or under employment or other problems.

The high cost of medicine has led to the development of the On line Pharmacies. Every internet site is now flooded with advertisements of them trumpeting that they are the best and reliable.

We are not very sure about the authenticity of these Online drugs.

The On line pharmacies sell medicines without doctor’s prescription, more over, they offer Online Prescriptions recommending medicines, if any person asks for a particular disease.

This probably helps the person get back the cost of medicines from the Insurance companies. Some times insurance companies refuse to pay the cost of such types of medicines.

The tussle is still on. May be one day federal rule will be enacted so that insurance companies may be forced to pay the online medicine bills to the benefits of common Americans.

The purchasing of medicines from a Discount Pharmacy is very common in the country, as you will get generic drugs at far low price than the Branded ones. So this system is here to stay.

I cannot understand how a Discount Pharmacy can supply medicines with discount! Are they bulk purchase the unpackaged medicines from the manufacturers and package them in their workshop and sell as the generic drug of the branded ones?

In one article I have read that people had to go to either Canada or Mexico to purchase branded drugs at cheap rate. Funny thing is that the medicine is manufactured in America, but cannot be sold at America with affordable price to common citizens, while importers in foreign countries can sale the drug with reduced price. So people residing near the border can cross the border and purchase it at reduced price! Such is the clutch of the Insurance companies in the USA.

So long as this unholy nexus between the insurance companies, health service providers and doctors will last, On line Pharmacy will remain, in spite of propaganda against them.

Because they are the only way to get the right medicines at right moment with or without a prescription with less price which common man can afford.

I am not against the Medical Insurance companies. It is true if we share of risks of high cost of medical treatment among ourselves, nothing is better than this. But it does not mean, that cost of the medical treatment should be jacked up to give the business to the insurance companies so that people are compelled to take the coverage that too also with high premium.

I think Government can do some thing in this respect. People below certain income level can be provided with free treatment or treatment with reduced cost if he is not properly covered under proper medical insurance. My article is getting lengthier. I will raise it again if opportunity comes.

Remember, if you are currently eligible for Medicare, enrolling before the May 15 deadline will help you avoid late enrollment fees. While the process may seem challenging, enrolling in a Part D plan may save money and help you get the drugs you need now and in the future.

Get Lower Back Pain Relief After Knowing Its Cause

Get Lower Back Pain Relief After Knowing Its Cause
Get Lower Back Pain Relief After Knowing Its Cause

No single cause for lower back pain can be defined in isolation. It is because the types of back pains are many. Understand the pain in its proper perspective, and then decide about the type of treatment that you intend to pursue.

In the USA, the survey reports indicate that four out of five adults experience back pain at one time or the other during their lives.

Your back is such a big area, and the pain could be in any part. But the severity of the pain has nothing to do with the damage you have suffered. A small strain, can give you unbearable pain. A big muscle-wound may not do much of the damage.

Your back is a long rectangular park. Many body parts are covered under its flat area. Any disturbed area can generate pain. Plus, there are many parts of the spinal anatomy which can cause a great amount of pain!

In the lower portion of the back, there is a cluster of nerve roots that go to the arms and legs. Any irritation there causes lower back pain. It is usually due to the irritation in the smaller nerves that innervate the spine in the lower portion of the back. Muscles may be strained. There could be injuries of joints, bones, ligaments and inter-vertebral discs that may cause you severe lower back pain.

The causes of lower back pain are at times difficult to understand and yet you experience it. When pain is there, it has to be treated as such. It is only you that can think about the immediate cause that has preceded your back pain. Is it due to wrong posture while you were sleeping? Is it due to an uneven bed? Is it due to heavy work pressure you are facing these days or long time sitting or standing job?

Whatever the reason may be, keep in mind that you cannot start taking over-the-counter medications just because you have pain in the lower backside. These hard medications can create more problems to your existing troubles.

Some types of back pains are capable of creating a surgical emergency. You need to adopt such procedures only based on your doctor’s recommendations. They are:

1. Sudden bowel and bladder inconsistency

2. Step-by-step increasing weakness

3. Sudden and severe pain in the abdomen and lower back

4. Back pain due to muscle strain.

Regular exercise and regulated diet habits are the permanent solutions to back pains. Always understand the reasons for your back pain and go ahead with the consistent treatment. Any odds and treatments that are not methodical will only aggravate your lower back pain.

How To Overcome The Symptoms Of Gout

How To Overcome The Symptoms Of Gout
How To Overcome The Symptoms Of Gout

Gout is one of the oldest and most painful diseases known to man. In the middle ages a gout patient was described as someone who was rich, corpulent and aristocratic, particularly one with enormous appetite for food, drink and women. And it is almost and always associated with men.

The symptoms of gout are irregular, excruciatingly painful attacks that are felt in the joints although typically each gouty episode affects one joint at a time. The most commonly affected joints are those of the big toe, which becomes red and swollen, hot and painful so that even the weight of a bed sheet seems unbearable. Other joints such as the knees and elbows are also affected, but one at a time.

The attacks usually last for about two weeks and then subside, recurring at some time in the future. The reoccurrence of the attacks varies
